Raw Shark Texts - after
Since my last post, I have been reading an advance copy of The Raw Shark Texts. It's over...but it's not over. This is a book I know I'll be thinking about, talking about, and wondering about for a good while yet.
From what I'd read on the internet -- Moby dick meets The Matrix -- I really wasn't sure what to expect. A friend of mine in publishing, whose taste I trust, said it was good and that was enough for me. He sent me an advanced copy and off I went with it.
What a ride. Steven Hall takes his readers into a really strange world--It's familiar in that it seems to be the same one we all inhabit everyday, and yet it is so different.
It is a lot to fit into your head, but with Hall as your guide, you never feel anymore left behind than Eric Sanderson the second. I guess what I'm trying to say is you don't read this book--you experience it. Hall captures everything so beautifully. Starting with "My eyes slammed themselves capital O open" on the first page. The book is real and unreal.
As it isn't expected to come out until March 2007, I guess I'll have to wait to really delve into this discussion. I'm sure by then it will be talk of the town. I can't very well start posting theories and thoughts at this time as they'd only be spoilers.
But if you've read it, and want to get a coffee with me, let me know!
I give the book top marks. Loved it.
PS -- don't forget to click on the links in the first post on Raw Shark Texts. I left one and so did Steven Hall himself in the comments section! Cheers.
